Lucas Lee Wins Let’s Get Dirty Autism Weekend Opener at Boyd’s Speedway

RINGGOLD, GEORGIA (April 29, 2022)– The Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Southern Series would start their 2022 racing season with the opening night of the Let’s Get Dirty Autism Weekend presented by Mountain View Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram, Will Kinzer Foundation for Autism Research, and John Schneider Studios at Boyd’s Speedwayi in Ringgold, GA and Lucas Lee of Paris, TN would lead all 25 laps on his way to a $1,500 payday.

The win by the 34-year-old Lee was his fourth career Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Series victory and would come aboard an Elite Chassis powered by a Mullins Race Engine and carries sponsorship from Tank Lines of Paris, 45 Race Shop, Turner’s Landscape, Wiles Driveshafts, and FK Rod Ends.

Lucas Lee would take the lead at the start on the main event, followed by Peyton Harlow, Brandon Kinzer, Jacob Hall, and Michael Asberry. The first caution would appear on lap two when Jamie Mosley would loop his mount exiting turn four. The restart would see Lee maintain the lead, while Kinzer would take second from Harlow, with Asberry rolling past Hall to take fourth. Chris Wilson would take fifth from Hall one circuit later, with the caution waving again on lap four when Adam Ogle and Tony Garber would tangle in turn two. The restart would see the top five remain the same until lap nine when disaster struck Wilson, who had a motor expire entering turn three. The restart saw Lee stay in command of the field, followed by Kinzer, Harlow, Asberry, and Ben Harmon. The front five would run in this order until caution waved again on lap twelve for a spin by Adam Ogle in turn two. The restart would not see a lap completed as Kinzer’s entry would slow entering turn three with drivetrain issues. Two more cautions for spins would also follow on the attempted lap twelve restart, but once action resumed, Lee would maintain the lead, with Asberry now in second, followed by Harlow, ninth-place starter Clayton Miller, and Harmon. With Lee stretching his lead out front, Asberry would hold second, while Harlow and Miller would settle into a side-by-side battle for third that would see the duo trade the position six times in the final ten circuits of the contest. Lee would see the checkered flag first, with Asberry coming home with runner-up honors, while Miller would work past Harlow for the final time on the last lap to take third. Harlow would settle for fourth and Harmon would finish fifth. The remainder of the top ten would be sixteenth-place starter Amos Bunch, Jacob Hall, Jeff Hamby, Jamie Mosley, and Skyler Douglas.
